SUMMER CAMPS AND CLASSES 2013

For the second year, the Mennello Museum is partnering with the University of Central Florida to present exclulsive art encounters for children and adults during the summer, taught by UCF art students.

All of the camps and classes will be themed around the museum's exhibitions, which will be about art and the Everglades. (See the upcoming exhibition schedule.) We'll even have an authentic Seminole chickee hut in the Sculpture Garden!

THREE-DAY CHILDREN'S CAMPS

There are only two sessions, which are limited to 15 participants.

Time: 1-4 p.m. Tuesday-Thursday
Cost: $75 per sesson, $65 for MMAA members
Reservations: 407-246-4278

June 18-20 (rising grades 1-3)
Everglades Adventure
Experience the old ways of life in the Florida Everglades right here on the Mennello Museum grounds. Design a boat to explore mangrove swamps and rivers on your “wilderness journey.” Illustrate wetland wildlife like herons and alligators that you see or fish that you catch. Pick your choice: Create a portrait of a famous Seminole chief, design a traditional Seminole longshirt or make a Seminole doll.  Also fashion your own Seminole-style bandolier bag to take your treasures home.

July 23-25 (rising grades 4-6)
A Land Remembered
What was life like for the Florida Seminoles who lived in the Everglades?  Experience fishing adventures, encounters with alligators, boat races and life in a chickee hut. Create your own version of Seminole clothing and crafts using fabric, beads and items found in the environment. Design a graphic novel using words and art to capture memories of life in the Everglades.

ADULT CLASSES

After last summer’s success, we’re bringing back a series of one-time classes for adults (and mature high school students). The classes are taught by UCF art students and include coffee in the morning sessions and a glass of wine in the evenings.

Cost: $20 per session, $15 for MMAA members
Reservations: 407-246-4278

Remembering

Patterns in Life
Explore intriguing designs created by the Florida Seminoles. Their native patterns are often inspired by plant motifs and other aspects of the natural world.  Try your hand at designing symbols of your world.
