Help us throw a picnic for Orlando!
Last year’s debut Indie-Folkfest at the Mennello Museum of American Art put a twist on our traditional Orlando Folk Festival with a Valentine’s Day-themed family folk picnic that featured locally sourced live music, original art and craft vendors, and picnic foods and beverages.
We focused on the exciting things happening in our surrounding neighborhoods, and partnered with East End Market for food, Joseph Martens for the music lineup, Enemy Ink screen printers, the Southern Fried Sunday folks, as well as seven area bars to throw a fun-filled picnic in the beautiful Sculpture Garden of The Mennello Museum of American Art.
Approximately 3,000 guests – including plenty of dogs and kids – spread out picnic blankets, made Valentine cards and enjoyed a daylong lineup of music against the backdrop of Lake Formosa in the winter sunshine.
It was an amazing day, and we’d like to do it again, this time adding more food and beverage options and more porta-potties, based on guest feedback.
Admission was FREE, and we want to keep it that way as our gift to the community! Last year the MMAA city advisory board and staff worked hard to raise funds by crowdfunding, and we need your help to do it again.
This year, we have posted our project on power2give.org, an online fundraising site for arts and cultural projects – and thank you in advance for making a donation of any size! Also thanks to a matching grant on power2give.org, the Orlando Utilities Commission will donate 50 cents for every dollar you give.
The second annual Indie-Folkfest will take place Saturday, February 13, 2016. To see more about last year’s festival, click here: https://orlandofolkfestival.wordpress.com/
